Description
The image is the site where Jose Rizal disembarked from the steamer "Cebu" on the beach of Sta. Cruz at 7:00 o'clock P.M. on 17 July 1892 to begin the life of an exile in Dapitan with Captain Delgras and three artillery men, they walked through Sta. Cruz Street with a farol de combate to the Casa Real where he was presented to Don Ricardo Carnicero, Spanish Military Governor of the District. The monument of the landing site is a work of an art as a tribute to all Dapitanons and to those who are in heart and in mind, silently share the same vision of Dr. Jose Rizal for the greater glory of Dapitan. Further, the monument is serves as a constant reminder to all Dapitanons that their place was once blessed with distinct honor and opportunity to shelter the greatest Filipino martyr who lived here on exile for four years, thirteen days and a few hours that sharing his noble life, works and teachings. The monument was unveiled during the 4th Handuraw Celebration on December 28, 2009. Mr. Antonio Tuviera, Concept and Production; Nilo Aje.
